The impact of coronavirus on the council’s cultural programme pdf icon PDF 183 KB

1.1 To set out how the council’s cultural programme has been adapted in response to the coronavirus.

The Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Tourism and Sport:-

1.  supported the pre-Covid19 decision to install cinema equipment at the theatre and to progress it in order to develop The Core’s cultural offer and provide the option to implement and withdraw cinematic events at short notice;

2.  supported in principle that:-

(a)  the Christmas pantomime should go ahead, subject to a final decision in the early autumn before any significant costs are incurred;

(b)  there should be no theatre programme prior to the late autumn; and

(c)  the community classes programme, along with the café, should aim to recommence in September, subject to the implementation of appropriate social distancing measures in line with government guidance;

3.  supported the introduction of a temporary creative arts support fund, to facilitate work by local artists during the coronavirus pandemic; and

4.  noted that all plans are subject to change based on the prevailing national situation and government guidance.
