COVID and VCS Response pdf icon PDF 197 KB

To report on how COVID-19 related government funding has been directed to, and invested in, local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector organisations to support households most affected by the pandemic.

To recommend that preparations are made for this coming winter, building on the learning and experience from 2020/21, as well as putting in place early help for households to prevent, reduce and avoid crises.

The Cabinet Member for Stronger and Safer Communities:

(i)  Noted the level of investment the council has achieved in the community led-response to COVID-19, and the successful efforts of the council’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector partners in providing that response;

(ii)  Approved in principle, the use of the council’s VCS Development Fund to invest in the development of activity in communities, who can provide early help to households with food, money, debt and fuel bills before and during this winter. This would be subject to a subsequent report being presented to the Cabinet Member in September to set out the details of the use of the funding.

Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy and Delivery Update pdf icon PDF 283 KB

To provide an update on the partnership response to preventing and relieving homelessness, set out progress to date in delivering the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy and to provide details of Solihull’s bid to the second round of the Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme (RSAP) 2021/22 and the fourth round of the Rough Sleeping Initiative 2021/22.

The report also requests approval for allocations of the government Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2021/22 to support Solihull Community Housing (SCH) and other commissioned providers to continue to deliver services to prevent and relieve homelessness in Solihull.

The Cabinet Member for Stronger and Safer Communities:

(i)  Noted progress in delivering the five objectives set in the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy (2020-2023). This includes priorities for recovery from the impact of COVID-19 and the further actions required to increase the successful homelessness prevention and relief outcomes for households to meet the 60% target by 31st March 2023.

(ii)  Noted Solihull’s bid submission to round 2 of the RSAP 2021/22.

(iii)  Noted Solihull’s successful bid to round 4 of the Rough Sleeping Initiative 2021/22.

(iv)  Approved the allocations of Government Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2021/22.
